INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

We offer internships to junior or senior level college students majoring in accounting. We expect our interns to be interested in pursuing a public accounting career and are planning to take the CPA exam. We work with your course schedule to allow you the ability to gain technical experience and knowledge while working directly with experienced CPA's. Individual performance is the main element in determining how quickly one will progress to the various classifications. During the course of a year, employees receive continuous feedback on job performance from supervisors and partners. Mid-year and annual performance evaluations are held with you to discuss performance on a more formal basis.

FRINGE BENEFITS

Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance--Health, dental and vision insurance coverage are provided through Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan. The extent of coverage is similar to what is found in most commercial programs. The employee cost of coverage is a percentage of the premium amount depending on single or family coverage. The employee may elect to have their portion of the premium deducted on a before-tax basis (Section 125 plan).

Life Insurance--Professional staff are provided $50,000 of term life insurance at no cost.

Disability Insurance--Short-term and long-term disability coverage is provided at no cost.

401(k) Plan--Employees may participate in our 401(k) Retirement Plan. Makela, Toutant, Hill & Nardi, P.C., makes a matching contribution of 40% up to a yearly match of $1000. Investments are made through American Funds Service Company. Twelve funds are available to you, including stock funds, stock/bond funds, bond funds, and money market funds.

Overtime--Payment of overtime is made through the senior level at the individual's hourly rate for hours in excess of 40 per week. In addition, professional staff may elect to accumulate up to 80 hours of overtime and use this time off as additional vacation in lieu of payment. While we make no guarantee as to the amount of overtime to be earned, past experience indicates it would be in the range of 10 to 15 percent of your base salary.

Vacation--Initial vacation entitlement is two weeks per year. Depending upon length of service and staff level achieved, this can increase to five weeks per year.

Paid Holidays--Paid holidays include New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day and Christmas. In addition, two personal holidays may be taken at the individual's discretion.

CPA Exam--We reimburse for certain expenses incurred in connection with obtaining professional certification. Reimbursement includes tuition and books for one formal or self-study coaching course. In addition, the fee for one complete examination is paid after all parts of the examination are passed. Employees passing the exam within 3 attempts are eligible for a bonus. Paid time off is granted for the first three exam sittings.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Your professional development at Makela, Toutant, Hill & Nardi, P.C., plays a significant role in your career. We require that all of our professional staff attend a minimum of 40 hours of formal training programs every year. We hold a monthly in-house training session as well as send our staff to various seminars and conferences sponsored by professional and business organizations throughout the United States. The combination of on-the-job training and formal educational programs means that you receive competent, up-to-date training to enhance your career with our firm.
